The Stony Brook School & SBS Parents

The Main Event 2019

Each year, The Main Event provides an opportunity to rally behind The Stony Brook School and support a strategic and necessary improvement to our campus. This year, all proceeds will be allocated to the new SBS Learning Commons, a creative, multi-functional space that will be available to all students for study, research, collaboration, mentoring and tutoring. Your participation will enable us to restructure the Library with an eye towards cutting-edge design and technology.

We hope you can join us for an evening of live music, dancing, raffles, and a silent & live auction. The ticket price is $150, which includes wine and beer, appetizers, dinner, and dessert. Many opportunities are available for individuals and businesses to serve as sponsors, provide auction items, make donations, purchase tables, and underwrite the event. Please consider supporting The Stony Brook School and The Main Event!

Main Event 2017

The Main Event

Thank you to all who attended, as well as the generous sponsors, auction donors, and hardworking committee members who made the evening possible. Your support and dedication helped to make The Main Event 2017 an overwhelming success.

Together, over $120,000 was donated towards enhancement of Stony Brook Multimedia Communications, including upgrades to a new digital projection system, addition of HD video cameras and recording devices, incorporation of video switching and streaming hardware, and enhancement to our video storage, editing and presentation equipment.

Enhancing Stony Brook’s Multimedia Communications
Carson, the oldest building on our campus, maintains its century-old stature as a hub of creativity, camaraderie, collaboration, hard work, and sheer fun. At SBS, the space has been a showcase for student talent from Theatrical Arts Society (TAS) productions to concert performances, Declamation contests to fine arts exhibits, Chapel sessions to student and parent assemblies, and so much more.
Built in 1910, originally as an open-air auditorium which sat 1,000 people in a single room, Carson Auditorium became the central place of worship and gathering for many Stony Brook Assembly guests.
By 1935, the auditorium was renovated to feature a hardwood basketball floor and renamed the John F. Carson Auditorium and Gymnasium. Some thirty years later, upon the completion of Swanson Gymnasium in 1972, Carson saw another transformation and was refurbished to become the center for the arts and community worship and assembly that we know today.
One alumna articulates the remarkable social influence of the building’s unique versatility: “It is entirely possible that no other building exists that has served a community as both temple and playground, both circus and sanctuary (and everything in between) so patiently and humbly as Carson has served Stony Brook.”
The building itself has been one of Stony Brook’s greatest vessels for change; a gateway to both our past and future as an institution. With technological advancements ever on the rise, Stony Brook aims to maintain our position as vanguard of modern education. SBS strives to provide our students and campus with current technology while upholding our traditions and values. With the help of recent technology enhancements, the SBS student tech team has worked to develop a means to capture and preserve student memories at Stony Brook. This includes providing access to recordings of student performances, chapel talks, and other major School events online. Stony Brook and its students provide live stream video access to our community--near and far--of presentations, athletic events, meetings, etc. We hope to continue this communication within the SBS community, and to share even more stories from the Brook!
Your Main Event support will provide resources to:
  • Upgrade to a new digital projection system;
  • Purchase additional HD video cameras and recording devices;
  • Incorporate video switching and streaming hardware;
  • Enhance video storage, editing and presentation equipment.

Please consider supporting this year’s project to keep our alumni, parents, and friends better connected to the Brook with new equipment that will capture, produce, preserve, and present the moments that we so love and cherish.
