Employment Application

Thank you for your interest in working at The Stony Brook School. At SBS, we believe that our people are our most important asset, and we are committed to finding candidates who have excellent competency in their craft, exemplary character, and clear mission and culture fit. We believe that working at a Christian boarding and day school is a high calling and that that high calling is not for everyone. We would therefore ask you to read attentively the enclosed materials so that you can become more familiar with us before submitting your application.

As we review expected faculty openings, we shall be in further contact with those individuals whose qualifications most closely correspond to anticipated needs. At that time we shall request transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate work. The final step will be to bring top candidates onto campus for interviews and a teaching demonstration in the classroom. All completed applications remain in our active faculty recruitment file for a period of one year. (You may extend this active status by sending a note so requesting.)

While life in a boarding school is intensely rewarding, it is also uniquely challenging. Relationships with colleagues and students tend to be rich but often draining; time demands are high in a job where evening and weekend duties are the norm. The Stony Brook School thus seeks faculty who can accommodate to these multiple claims. Specifically, we are looking for individuals who are
  • Well-educated, accomplished teachers, coaches, dorm parents, and activity leaders who possess the gift of teaching and love working with teenagers
  • Committed to the intensity and time commitment inherent in boarding school life
  • Mature, active Christians who embrace the School’s Platform of Principles
  • Interesting people open to sharing their life experiences with students.

Because of the heavy expectations placed on faculty, the School does not permit outside employment for full-time faculty during the school year without special prior permission. Salary and benefits are negotiated at time of employment. The Stony Brook School does not discriminate on the grounds of race, color, sex, or ethnic origin.
THE PLATFORM OF PRINCIPLES I. The Deity of our Lord Jesus Christ. II. The need and efficacy of the sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ for the redemption of the world. III. The presence and power of the Holy Spirit in the work of redemption. IV. The divine institution and mission of the Church. V. The divine inspiration, integrity, and authority of the Bible. VI. The broad and binding obligation resting upon the Church for the evangelization of the world. VII. The consummation of the Kingdom in the appearing of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ. The Stony Brook School believes in an incarnational ministry where faith is wedded to work. We believe that an essential foundation to its mission as a Christian school is the shared commitment of its faculty to a growing Christian faith. The platform of Principles has been established as a statement of basic beliefs to which all faculty and board members at the School subscribe.
