Visiting SBS

There is simply no better way to get to know The Stony Brook School than by coming on our beautiful 55-acre campus and spending time with our amazing people. The sense of community and genuine care for others that we experience daily is something prospective families notice even within a few minutes of arrival.
There are two ways to experience The Stony Brook School difference:

Campus Visit

Visits typically include a student-led tour and a discussion with one of our Admissions representatives afterward. SBS also offers class visit days to give prospective students the opportunity to experience a full school day on campus. Once our office receives an application, an invitation for an on-campus interview will be extended. In many cases, the interview can be done on the same day as a class visit or a campus tour.

Please email the Admissions Office at or call at 631-751-1800 ext. 1 to schedule an appointment.

Open House

Open Houses provide a comprehensive introduction to The Stony Brook School. We welcome all prospective students and families to come to campus for a chance to hear from current students, faculty, and parents about their experiences at SBS. Open House events also offer campus tours, a look at one of our on-campus dorms, and opportunities for in-depth conversation with our Head of School, Admissions representatives, administrators and faculty from various academic departments.

Getting To Campus

By Car
For directions by car, please consult Google Maps via the link or the widget in the sidebar.

By Train
The Long Island Rail Road’s Stony Brook Station is across the street from our campus and is served by the Port Jefferson Line.  Trains travel daily to and from Penn Station in Manhattan.

By Ferry

Two year-round car ferries offer round-trip service to Connecticut. The closest option to campus operates between Port Jefferson, which is four miles east of the School, and Bridgeport, Connecticut. The other ferry travels between Orient Point, on the east end of Long Island, and New London, Connecticut. Reservations are suggested for both.

By Air
Two major airports – JFK International Airport and LaGuardia Airport – are located within 40 miles of our campus. The Long Island MacArthur Airport, which is just a 15 minute drive away, is another option for domestic travel via Southwest Airlines or US Airways.

Car/Limousine Service from Airports
Cost one-way is about $110. You can arrange for the cost to be paid by credit card. When making the reservation, ask for The Stony Brook School rate. Sometimes students share the cost with friends. Cars are new town cars; a uniformed driver will meet student in baggage claim. The student's name will be on a sign.

Classic Limo
Cost one-way is about $75-110. You can arrange for a private car or the share-a-ride van. This is a good service, but it may take longer to return to Stony Brook if the van is dropping off other passengers. Classic Limo can also be contacted through the airport's Ground Transportation Desk.

Spartan Limousine Service
Cost one-way is about $75. Drivers are not in uniform. The driver will meet the student/parent in baggage claim. If the driver is picking up a student, the student's name will be on a sign.
