The first step in the SBS application process is to inquire. If you have not already filled out our inquiry form electronically or in paper form we invite you to do so now by clicking here. Once you complete the inquiry form, we will add you to our database of prospective families.
While the January 15 deadline for the first round of decisions has passed, we continue to accept applications for the 2018-19 academic year. Please contact the Admissions Office via telephone at 631-751-1800 ext. 1 or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
Please note that SBS only accepts the Standard Application Online (SAO). The application fee for domestic students is $100 while international students will pay $250. Please note that SBS does not provide application fee waivers. Upon completion of the student biographic profile and submission of the application fee, applicants can proceed to step 3. The parent statement and student essays can be completed at a later date.
Applicants who meet the January 15 deadline with a completed file will receive their decision on March 10, 2018. Applications received after January 15 will be reviewed on a continuting basis as space is available. Please contact the Admissions Office if you have questions.
Upon completion of the student biographic profile and submission of the application fee, please contact the Admissions Office via telephone at 631-751-1800 ext. 1 or email@example.com to schedule an interview. All applicants must interview in order to complete the application process. For those applicants that cannot interview on campus, a Skype interview is available. Chinese applicants should click on the link below for more information about the interview process.
Applicants to Grades 7-10 should take the Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT). When registering for the SSAT please include the code for The Stony Brook School (7510). Please note that the SSAT typically requires registration to be completed three weeks in advance of the test so please plan accordingly.
Applicants to Grade 11 and 12 should submit a PSAT, ACT, or SAT score report. Please note that applicants entering 11th grade do have the option of taking the SSAT and we will accept those scores if the PSAT, ACT, or SAT are not available.
All applicants for whom english is not their first language are required to submit a TOEFL score report. When registering for the TOEFL please use the following code (8083).
We request that any student with a 504 Plan, IEP, or that is seeking accomodations contact the Admissions Office (firstname.lastname@example.org).
The Stony Brook School requires an English teacher recommendation and a math teacher recommendation from the current teacher (2017-2018 academic year). The recommendations should be sent electronically via the SAO.
We suggest that applicants wait until late November or early December to request their teacher recommendations, which will provide teachers with adequate time to evaluate the applicant.
Families interested in applying for financial aid should complete an application by February 1st. Financial aid applications will still be considered after this deadline but the school cannot guarantee that funds will still be available.
Any family applying for financial aid should indicate their desires on the application. Please note that financial aid decisions are made based on a family’s demonstrated financial need and determined on a case by case basis. The vast majority of financial aid is allocated to domestic applicants.
We request that all domestic applicants submit their financial aid documents to TADS. After a preliminary review of the information, TADS will determine a family’s eligibility for financial aid and calculate an award. The Admissions Office will review the analysis done by TADS and make a final decision.
The Stony Brook School is an approved test center for the SSAT. We administer most test dates with the exception of the January test. Students should register directly online with SSAT and use our school code 7510 if planning to test at our center.
We consider requests for Flex SSAT Testing. If Flex SSAT Testing is requested, please contact our SSAT Coordinator: Molly Shteierman
