Junior Brookers is the ideal introduction to a Stony Brook education. Junior Brookers is a coed introductory program that combines physical, social, and academic growth to prepare young people for school. Under the guidance of experienced elementary school instructors, the participants are involved in a variety of fun, hands-on educational activities that encourage positive life values and healthy creative endeavors.
There will be 3 different session themes in Junior Brookers this summer: ocean, dinosaurs, and space. This program offers educational activities that encourage curiosity and foster critical thinking skills. Activities include creating an indoor ocean and classroom planetarium, interaction with live marine and land animals, a daily visit to our math lab to keep math facts fresh, music appreciation and art sessions for cultivating creative ideas, and intro- ductions on sailing, canoeing, seining, and fishing. Swim lessons and other water activities round out the program. The group will go on at least three field trips each week. Past field trips included Holtsville Ecology Center, Port Jefferson Harbor, West Meadow Beach, Sweet Briar Nature Center, and the Vanderbilt Planetarium. A morning and afternoon snack will be provided. $750
SAT Prep Course
Session B: July 17 – July 31
Mr. Michael Hickey, a Stony Brook School faculty member, teaches this highly successful SAT prep course. In past sessions the average improvement has been nearly 250 points with some students improving 400 points. Content includes test-taking strategies, skill development, timed drills, and individual feedback. The courses begin with an initial SAT test on Sunday afternoon from 2-6 pm. Instruction is given during evening classes Monday through Thursday, from 6:30-9:30pm, for the following two weeks. The course then concludes with a final SAT test on the following Sunday from 2-6 pm. The SAT prep course fee covers all instructional material. $900

The Elementary Tutorial Program is designed to meet the specialized academic needs of the children in our Summer Programs. These programs take place in the extended day hours and includes classes each day during the session. Campers may choose to participate in the morning hour from 7am-8am, one or both evening hours from 4pm-6pm, or all three. This program specializes in the review, reinforcement, and development of reading, math, and writing skills to support the new Common Core Standards. Although all materials are provided, students may bring in any work or projects that may require assitance. Weekly updates will be provided to parents. $250 per session/per hour.
