Giving

Why Support SBS?

Every dollar given to The Stony Brook School is carefully invested into the life of the School, ensuring that our students are equipped for lives of leadership and service.

Great things have happened at SBS because of the strong support of SBS alumni, parents, and friends since the School's earliest years.  Gifts both large and small, from donors like you, are evidence of God's faithful provision and the ongoing relevance of the School's mission.  In the past 15 years (and counting), we have undertaken major renovations to our physical plant, including significant upgrades to our classrooms and our athletics facilities.  In addition, we have been able to award financial aid to many students whose parents could not otherwise afford an SBS education.

We are pleased that you are considering giving to The Stony Brook School. Such gifts take many forms. Thank you for considering a one-time or recurring gift to one of our major funds.

Thank you for also considering how you might be able to volunteer your time in prayer or service to the school. Thank you for your generosity.  I encourage you to contact the Alumni and Development Office with any further questions.

  • STONY BROOK NEXT

In the past three years, generous donors have given nearly $6 million to strengthen and enhance the day to day experience for students of the Stony Brook School. By God’s grace, this has been a time of profound renewal and transformation.

As we move toward 2017, we embark on our next near term goals in the implementation of our Strategic Plan as we continue our giving theme of Stony Brook Next.

This year we are seeking $1,250,000 in new pledges and giving. Our specific goals are:

    • Expand our classroom redesigns to additional classrooms.
    • Enhance opportunities for our students with upgrades to our fitness center
    • Add new instructional technology for teachers, continuing our multi-year approach to upgrading technology integration
    • Renew our long-term commitment to need-based financial aid through new gifts and planned gifts to endowment.

Stony Brook Next continues the tradition of generous giving which will have a tangible effect for every student and teacher, transforming our campus, and sustaining our future.

“These are exciting times for The Stony Brook School.  With clear vision and growing investment in our School, we feel the wind at our backs.  The accomplishment of our strategic goals will position Stony Brook well for the next hundred years of growth and impact.  Soli Deo Gloria!”  Joshua Crane, Head of School

  • ENDOWMENT

The earnings, interest, and dividends of The Stony Brook School's Endowment Fund are an important source of revenue, helping to underwrite a percentage of the School's operating and capital budgets each year. Valued at $13.5 million, our Endowment is composed of unrestricted funds (to be used where most needed) as well as funds restricted for specific purposes and programs. The invested principal of the Endowment grows through current gifts of cash and appreciated securities, through deferred and estate gifts, and through reinvestment of earnings to provide for inflation.

The growth of our Endowment is vital to the School's long-term financial stability.
  • CURTIS CIRCLE PLANNED GIVING SOCIETY

The Curtis Circle Planned Giving Society is The Stony Brook School's recognition society for those who make a planned gift to the School.

A gift of a bequest, a life income gift, life insurance, or naming us a beneficiary of another financial asset will secure your membership in the Curtis Circle.  Of course, if you prefer to make your gift anonymously we will happily accommodate your request.
Unless for naming credit in a campaign, Curtis Circle members are never asked for written proof of their gifts. All gift information is treated as confidential, should you choose to share it with us. We will also gladly secure your gift documentation if you prefer. All we ask is that you tell us the type of gift you have made.

For more information on giving through your estate, please contact the SBS Development Office at 631-941-1550 or via email.
