Athletics Philosophy

What We Learn on the Playing Field

At The Stony Brook School, we believe that academics and athletics are co-curricular, meaning one does not supersede the other. We challenge our student-athletes to learn in the classroom and compete on the athletic fields to their best of their ability, believing that in doing so they will be the recipients of a robust, holistic education.

On the field, court, track, and course our athletes learn about sacrifice, perseverance, courage, and responsibility in a way they may not anywhere else. At Stony Brook, athletics is a vehicle of growth where the end goal is not merely victory, but the development of a strong character and the stewardship of their God-given talents.

We are a member school of the New York State Public High School Athletic Association. Our student-athletes have the opportunity to compete on over twenty interscholastic teams that strive to compete at the highest level of skill and sportsmanship.

Do not hesitate to contact the Athletic Office with any questions.
