The 2011 football season was about starting and finishing well at The Stony Brook School. The year began on a solid note, defeating both Wyandanch (38-20) and Mercy (43-35). The Mercy game was an exciting one as the defense was able to keep Mercy out of the end zone in Stony Brook’s territory, forcing a turnover on downs with under a minute to go in the game. Starting with the second game, however Stony Brook began to suffer a series of devastating injuries. After losing the starting quarterback and captain, Marco Masakayan, against Mercy, a number of other two way starters (including captain Wyatt Piazza) went down. This made facing the toughest part of the schedule even more difficult as The Stony Brook School went on a 5 game losing streak.

This streak was broken in the last game of the season as The Stony Brook School traveled to Southampton to face the Mariners. The boys played very hard and were able to pull out an impressive victory, scoring 40 points to Southampton's 12. In this game, junior running back Donald Liotine broke two school records. In one of the greatest performances in 90 years of Stony Brook football, Liotine ran for 340 yards on 15 carries, a remarkable 22.7 yards per carry, and 6 touchdowns on the Mariners’ senior night to cement a season full of great accomplishments.  Four of Liotine’s touchdowns runs went for 46 yards, 90 yards, 71 yards, and 59 yards.  His 340 yards not only eclipsed the school record for rushing yards in a game, it obliterated it, surpassing the previous rushing record for yards by over 100 yards and it was the first time a Stony Brook athlete has rushed for 6 touchdowns in a game, scoring 38 points. Liotine’s night will stand alongside any athletic accomplishments in Stony Brook history for years to come, if he doesn’t break his record next year. Liotine’s remarkable night was not just impressive for a school of this size; it stands as one of the great performances in the history of Long Island football. It was a night to celebrate a great performance, but it was also a night to pay tribute to a great team that persevered through innumerable obstacles to give The Stony Brook School countless thrills this season and the outstanding coaching staff, led by Kris Ryan, that got the best out of the boys.

Several players earned post season honors. Liotine was recognized as 1st Team All-Division and All-County. Jake Harrington made 1st Team All-Division. 2nd Team All-Division included Jerome Washington, Taylor Colucci, and William Adu-Krow. The SBS football team was honored to receive the Outstanding Sportsmanship Award for the fall season as determined by league schools.
