Will Bequest

A will bequest is an easy way to support The Stony Brook School.  A gift in your will has no lifetime cost, and your estate may earn a charitable estate tax deduction for the value of your gift to the School. Your attorney can easily include a gift to Stony Brook when she/he prepares your will. You will need to give your attorney our legal name and tax ID number.

Here are sample bequests that show you some of the ways to include SBS in your will:

Outright Bequest

Using an outright bequest, you leave a specific amount of money to The Stony Brook School. State your outright bequest like this:

"I hereby give, devise and bequeath to The Stony Brook School with address at 1 Chapman Parkway, Stony Brook, NY 11790 and Federal Tax ID number 11-6112414, the sum of $ _____."

You can also use an outright bequest to leave a gift of stock, jewelry, art, collectibles, real estate or any other property of value. Be sure to describe the item and its location in as much detail as possible to help your loved ones identify it.

Residual Bequest

A residual bequest enables you to leave what remains in your estate, or a portion of what remains, after all outright bequests, expenses of death, debts and taxes have been paid. Word it this way:

"I hereby give, devise and bequeath to The Stony Brook School with address at 1 Chapman Parkway, Stony Brook, NY 11790 and Federal Tax ID number 11-6112414, all the rest, residue and remainder of my estate."

OR, to make your residual bequest a percentage,

"I hereby give, devise and bequeath to The Stony Brook School with address at 1 Chapman Parkway, Stony Brook, NY 11790 and Federal Tax ID number 11-6112414, ___% of the rest, residue and remainder of my estate."
