History of Philosophy (Honors and Regular)

This upper school elective course focuses on the history of metaphysics, epistemology, and philosophy of religion from the Pre-Socratics to the present.  Students engage the great philosophers by reading the words of the philosophers, discussing their ideas, writing and presenting papers in response to the reading, and engaging in civil debates.  With an emphasis on critical reading and reasoning, written argumentation, and rhetoric, the course aims to instill the intellectual virtues needed for productive inquiry into truth, beauty, and goodness.

Please note: All courses are not taught every semester. Offerings will vary depending on enrollment, student interest and semester scheduling.
