European History (Grade 11)
The primary goal of this course is to provide students with an overview of European development, which includes the intellectual, political, economic, religious, and social history of the continent. The course covers the 16th century and the rise of the nation state through the end of the 20th century and the collapse of Communism. A major term paper offers the opportunity to choose an area of particular interest to investigate more fully, using research techniques to draw advanced conclusions. At the end of the course, time will be spent looking at modern European society, including the Balkans, the European Union, and the economic impact of the Euro. (1 credit)
