From the Headmaster

Welcome to The Stony Brook School!

I am glad that you have found us here. We are excited to show you our school as you browse this website.

Since its founding in 1922, The Stony Brook School has been committed to the education of both the mind and the heart. This dual approach, we believe, is the best way to address the complexities of what it means to be human. Throughout its history, the School has embraced rigorous academics as well as character development. Along with intellectual pursuits, we desire to foster the physical, creative, moral, and spiritual growth of our diverse student body. At The Stony Brook School, students learn in a strong academic environment set in the context of a community dedicated to a thoughtful faith in Christ and a life of moral integrity.

This positive atmosphere exists because The Stony Brook School has adhered to its founders’ vision of an intentionally Christian academic community, a context that we believe can benefit students from all backgrounds. We present a coherent center from which faculty and students can ask questions about life’s big issues and consider answers from a faith perspective.

Our School’s motto, "Character Before Career," is a constant reminder that what one does flows naturally from an understanding of who one is. Our intention is that when our students graduate, they are not only fully prepared for the rigors of the university, but also they have learned, as our mission states, “to serve the world through their character and leadership.”

While this website is a dynamic introduction to campus life, our faculty, staff, and students tell the whole story of the School. I hope that you will visit us soon and experience The Stony Brook School in all its vibrancy.

Warmest regards,

Robert E. Gustafson, Jr., Headmaster
