The
Stony Brook School is committed in its mission statement to
“challenge young men and women to know Jesus Christ.”
That desire is evidenced in the daily rhythms of our community.
Students are encouraged, challenged, and nurtured by faculty,
administrators, staff, coaches, dorm parents, spouses and
families, and their friends and classmates. The integration
of faith and learning in the classroom, Chapel services, retreats,
and student or faculty led Bible studies and prayer groups
all serve to help foster individual growth in the knowledge
of Jesus Christ.
Students
are required to attend a chapel service as part of most academic
days. They hear from guest speakers, the Stony Brook faculty
and their peers on a wide range of topics. In addition, boarders
attend formal Sunday Chapel services. Optional communion services
are offered monthly.
Students
also are involved serving the larger community and world.
Many students participate in H.E.A.R.T., blood drives, Operation
Christmas Child, the 30-Hour Famine, trips to the local Veteran’s
home, prison visitations, and raising money for special world
needs, such as the Tsunami Relief Fund in 2005. Spring Break
and summer trips are offered with a focus on outreach and
caring for the needs of others. |
