Fund for Character Education
The annual Fund for Character Education helps to sustain The Stony Brook School's Christian foundation as well as its high academic standards. Set in the context of an intentional Christian community, the gifts received help to fund our operation budget, provide financial aid scholarships to more than 30% of our students, maintain a low student-to-faculty ratio, attract talented and experienced faculty, sustain academic programs and library collections, fund interscholastic athletics and fine arts programs, and support faculty professional growth opportunities. The Fund for Character Education is the foundation upon which the School builds its programs. It provides a meaningful way for alumni, parents, and friends to participate in the School each year. Thanks to the support of many generous individuals, last year's Fund for Character Education (including the Parent Fund) raised $594,818.

Parent Fund
The Parent Fund is a blended fund of our Annual Fund and capital giving project. All parents of current SBS students are encouraged to participate as they are able - whether through small or large gifts - in order to continue to strengthen The Stony Brook School on behalf of current and future students. Each year, 60% of the Parent Fund is allocated to our Fund for Character Education and 40% is devoted to a special project. Past projects have included new seating and carpeting in Carson Auditorium and renovation of our Memorial Hall Science Labs. The Parent Fund also helped to fund the 2008 renovation of Kinney Field House, a versatile-year-round athletic facility, as well as the 2010 installation of wireless Internet access on campus. Thanks to our parents, last year's Parent Fund raised $79,010.

Capital Projects
Upgrading the facilities on our 54-acre campus has been an institutional priority during the last decade and will continue to be an important part of the School's fund raising efforts. Since 1995, we have constructed Cleveland Alumni House (a residence hall funded entirely by our alumni), the 700-seat Buyers' Park stadium, and the all-weather Marvin W. Goldberg Track. A significant capital campaign completed in 2000 resulted in the renovation and expansion of Swanson Gymnasium and the construction of Simons and Alexander residence halls. In the last five years, we have completed an extensive renovation and restoration of historic Carson Auditorium (2005); refitted and redesigned the Memorial Hall science labs (2005) and two computer labs; constructed the Jeff Adams Field (2007); and completed major renovations of Kinney Field House (2007), Hegeman Hall (2009), and Monro Hall (2010).

Endowment Fund
The earnings, interest, and dividends of The Stony Brook School's Endowment Fund are an important source of revenue, helping to underwrite a percentage of the School's operating and capital budgets each year. Valued at $11.4 million as of December 2009, our Endowment is composed of unrestricted funds (to be used where most needed), as well as funds restricted for specific purposes and programs. The invested principal of the Endowment grows through current gifts of cash and appreciated securities, through deferred and estate gifts, and through reinvestment of earnings to provide for inflation. The growth of our Endowment is vital to the School's long-term financial stability.
