The
Stony Brook School offers an academic program that is challenging,
comprehensive, and that recognizes the interconnectedness of
academic disciplines. Students are encouraged to ask questions,
to think independently, and to write well. While students are
taught to work independently, they also learn to work in concert
with others and
with
a range of educational and research
technologies. Our curriculum is governed principally by the
requirements of college preparation and includes formal study
of the Bible.
GRADING
AND CLASS RANK:
The
School follows a two-semester system, reporting grades in
December and May. Each semester concludes with comprehensive
exams or papers. The letter to numerical equivalents for grades
are:
A
(92-100)=4.0, B+
(87-91)=3.5, B
(82-86)=3.0, C+
(77-81)=2.5, C
(70-76)=2.0, D+
(65-69)=1.5, D
(60-64)=1.0, F (below
60)=0.0. Students will receive an additional half point (0.5)
to their grade when a 2.0 or better is earned in an AP, honors,
fourth-year foreign language, or pre-calculus course. This
weighted mark is reported on the transcript and is used in
determining grade point average. The school does not rank
students, and grade point average is not cumulative.
