In
his address at the Inauguration of The Stony Brook School,
founding Headmaster Frank Gaebelein outlined five principles
that a Christian school must follow as it challenges its students.
One of those principles listed was, “The
Christian school must ever preserve a nice balance between
the religious, scholastic, and recreative phases of its work”.
Stony Brook has always considered a program of healthy physical
development an important part of stimulating personal growth.
In selecting competitive sports as the venue for this development,
the School recognizes their great potential as a
laboratory for character education.
The
field and court offer physical and team building opportunities
that emphasize camaraderie, dedication, and perseverance.
The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat provide practical
experiences in self-control, patience, and humility. The athletic
program at The Stony Brook School is
not an extracurricular activity; it is an essential ingredient
in the mission to correlate personal growth and character
education. Each student is required to participate
in the program every academic year.
