The Stony Brook School has completed an eventful volleyball season. A highlight was the 3-2 win over Center Moriches at the beginning of the season. This was only the second loss by Center Moriches since coming into our league 3 years ago.
Another highlight was the DIG PINK event, held in October. All of the Suffolk County girls' volleyball teams joined the cause with high schools and colleges across the country to serve against breast cancer. They committed to hosting a volleyball match during Breast Cancer Awareness Week to benefit the Side-Out Foundation.
The Stony Brook School played against last year's Suffolk County representative to the State Championship Final 4, Shelter Island. The Lady Bears played extremely well, losing 2-3, but bettered their performance from an earlier match in the season where they lost to Shelter Island, 3-0. It wasn't a complete loss, however, as the Lady Bears raised $140 to contribute towards cancer research.
The girls were enthusiastically decked out in pink. They wore pink hair bows, socks, and shorts. The Stony Brook athletic department decorated the gym with pink balloons and other festivities to raise awareness, add to the excitement of the game and pep up the fans to contribute to the cause.
