STONY BROOK SCHOOL CLASS OF 2009

The Stony Brook School held its eighty-sixth Commencement exercises on Saturday, May 23, 2009. The baccalaureate sermon was given by Rev. Jarvis Ward, of Mission America. Stephen Clapp, violin faculty member and dean emeritus of The Juilliard School, gave the commencement address. The Stony Brook School graduated 60 students. The Class of 2009 is characteristic of a typical Stony Brook School class representing 7 states within the USA as well as these countries: China, France, Korea, Russia, Taiwan, Tanzania, Turkey, Ukraine, and Vietnam. Students will be attending a variety of colleges and universities come August. VALEDICTORIAN The class Valedictorian is Alexander Sam Reiner (Old Field). At SBS since 7th grade, Reiner was on the varsity golf team, the Ocean Bowl Team, the USA Mathematical Talent Search and the Academic Council. He was involved in extensive research projects during high school and was a Simons Summer Research Fellow at SUNY Stony Brook. In the fall Reiner will attend the University of Pennsylvania to major in Management and Technology in the Jerome Fisher Program. |

SALUTATORIAN Nara Shin (Korea) is the 2009 Salutatorian. Shin was a dorm prefect and participated in the Theatrical Arts Society. She organized a Model UN group at SBS, played piano for the Jazz Band, and was a member of the chess team. In the fall she will attend Brown University.
