Despite great team play and many near scores for Stony Brook, the game was decided and barely lost 0-1 with 97 seconds remaining in regulation. Our Long Island Champions girls soccer team accomplished their best season in school history, won the Section XI Class C Championship, the Long Island Class C Championship, and ultimately finished in the top eight in their New York state classification.
Coach Jeremy Meserole began with a young and talented girls soccer team and molded them into Long Island champions. Captain Karina Scavo '09 earned All-County honors by complimenting her tremendous ball skills with unending hustle. Goalkeeper Danielle Pappas '11 had two play-off shutouts and only allowed one post-season goal. Michelle Hennessey '11 earned All Conference recognition while captain Sadie Singer '10 and Brianna Sticklickas '11 were honored with All-League selections. The ladies will miss the committed play of captain Taylor Higgins '08, but hope to build on their '07 Regional Finals performance with the return of every other member on the varsity roster.
