STONY BROOK SCHOOL STUDENTS INDUCTED INTO CUM LAUDE SOCIETY

At a closing awards ceremony for The Stony Brook School on Friday, May 22, 12 students were inducted into the School's chapter of the Cum Laude Society. Students awarded certificates were Alexander Reiner (Old Field), Nara Shin (Korea), Minchul Mick Kim (Korea), Karina Scavo (Mount Sinai), Samantha Lee (Islip), Hae-In Henry Hwang (Korea), Jeremy Jung-Hoon Yoo (Korea), Jenae Ward (Miss.), Alexandra Ruffing (Manorville), Seung Jik Eric Cho (Korea), Florence Madenga (Tanzania), and Zhong Zhou Wang (China). pictures Honorees include students in the top of their class and are honored with a Cum Laude certificate. Seventh grade students included: Alexandra Cunningham (Setauket), Eliana Zupcich (Yaphank), Justin Shi (Stony Brook), and Margot Rashba (Port Jefferson). Eighth grade students included: David Biggers (Port Jeff. Sta.), Alexandra Philyaw (Stony Brook), Nicolette Pellicane (Nissequogue), Blakeley Schiffman (Ronkonkoma), and Ji Yoon Julie Lee (Korea). Freshmen included: Hyunsoo Paul Chung (NJ), Michelle Avrutin (E. Northport), Kelsey Wentling (New York), Colleen Higgins (East Setauket), and Christina LaGamma (Setauket). Sophomores included: Emma Moley (Bellport), Jingwei Eleanore An (China), Kara Lee (Islip), Christine Boss (NH), Jessica Winston (Stony Brook), and Forrest Hull (NJ). Juniors included: Rebekah Sides (Stony Brook), Yen Ju Tai (Taiwan), Linnea Peckham (Pa.), Margaret Pavao (Stony Brook), Won Jun Richard Hong (Korea), and Hyuk-Min James Kwon (Korea). pictures Founded in 1906, the Cum Laude Society is dedicated to honoring scholastic achievement in secondary schools. The founders of the society modeled Cum Laude after Phi Beta Kappa and in the years since its founding, Cum Laude has grown to 350 chapters, approximately two dozen of which are located in public schools and the rest in Independent schools. |
